Ruby

Ruby is a systems programming language. It is a dynamic, reflective, object-oriented, general-purpose, open-source programming language. According to its authors, the language was influenced by Perl, Smalltalk, Eiffel, Ada, and Lisp. It supports multiple programming paradigms, including functional, object-oriented, and imperative. It also has a dynamic type system and automatic memory management.

Ruby is supported on arm64 systems, and the most recent stable version available in source form is 2.5.1 as of March 28, 2018.

Ruby is available as part of the Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial distribution as version 2.3.1p112 of 2016-04-26, using apt-get install ruby-full.

For container-based packaging of Ruby applications, Docker offers a repository upon which applications can be built.

As most programming languages, Ruby leverages a wide set of third-party libraries, known as “gems”. Ruby’s extensive library support generally Works on Arm, but not all of these community contributed tools have had the same level of review for portability as the language itself.
