Overview and Armv8 Status

The Go programming language (golang) is an open source language that makes it easy to build simple, reliable, and efficient software. It emerged from systems language work at Google, led by Rob Pike.

The current status for Golang on Armv8 is “Developer Ready”.

Release information

  • Go 1.11 is the latest version of Go (released August 24, 2018). The compiler now has a number of performance improvements for arm64. A binary distribution is available.


  • On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial), the system version of Go is 1.6.4. Ubuntu also provides a PPA with additional Go versions for recent prerelease code.
  • On Centos 7, the system version of Go is 1.6.3.
  • On Fedora 29, the system version of Go will be a 1.11 version. Work is underway to port all dependent packages to that version.
